The Federal Association of the German Food Industry e. V. ( BVE ) is an interest group of professional associations and companies in the food industry in Germany.

The association, based in Berlin, represents the members in Berlin, Bonn and Brussels. The BVE represents around 90 percent of the industry through professional and corporate memberships in the umbrella organization. Branch-specific tasks are processed in the professional associations. The chief executive is the journalist Christoph Minhoff .

history

precursor

In 1934 the food industry group was recognized by the Reich Minister for Food and Agriculture as the sole business representative for the food industry. The WG Lebensmittelindustrie was subdivided into the Reichsgruppe Industrie of the Reichswirtschaftskammer .

In 1945 the liaison office for the food industry in the British zone was established with the military government in Detmold, and in 1946 a central association called the Economic Association of the Food Industry in the British Zone was established and the liaison office was dissolved.

BVE

The BVE was founded in 1949 as an association of the German food industry. In 1953, it was reorganized into the Federal Association of the German Food Industry .

Since 2017, the association has also been one of the founders of the Central Packaging Register Foundation (ZSVR) in accordance with Section 24 of the Packaging Act , based in Osnabrück .

Mission statement

The association sees its central task in securing and improving the competitiveness of companies in the German food industry. Less bureaucracy, less regulation, more freedom for entrepreneurs and personal responsibility for citizens - this is the attitude that the BVE uses to promote its concerns in the political debate. To this end, it is in close dialogue with its members, with politics and administration and the media.

organization

As a partner in the food chain, the food industry works together with agriculture, the food trade, gastronomy , community catering , supply industries and service providers.

The association represents the interests of the German food industry as a member of the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the EU , or FoodDrinkEurope for short (until 2011 called Confédération des Industries Agro-Alimentaires de l'Union Européenne, CIAA for short), the European umbrella organization for the industry. The BVE has working relationships with the Federation for Food Law and Food Science (BLL), which deals with legal and scientific issues for the entire food industry, and with the Research Group for the Food Industry (FEI). The BVE also cooperates with the Employers' Association Food and Enjoyment (ANG), which represents the socio-political interests of the food industry.

Members

The association is organized in three pillars:

  • Professional associations : The professional associations form the classic members of the Federal Association of the German Food Industry, which constitutes the function of the BVE as a central association. A substantial part of the German professional associations of the food industry is organized in the BVE.
  • Direct members : In addition to the professional associations, companies in the food industry that are organized in the professional associations can also acquire direct membership in the BVE and thus become actively involved in the association's work.
  • Support association : The support association of the German food industry (FDE) supports the BVE ideally and financially and promotes the exchange between the BVE and the members of the FDE. Membership can be acquired by companies, institutions and people who are close to the work of the BVE (trade fair companies, service companies, suppliers, etc.).
