Silvio Berlusconi (2010)

Bunga Bunga or Bunga-Bunga-Party was popularized in 2010 as a term for sex parties of the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and quickly found its way into linguistic usage and popular culture in many countries. The occasion was an affair Berlusconi, in which he was accused of promoting prostitution with minors ( Ruby affair from 2010).

In clearing up this affair, Bunga Bunga is described as "... the alleged habit of the Arcore landlord ", Berlusconi, "to invite beautiful women and interested guests to a kind of erotic dessert in the private room after the traditional dinner ...". Silvio Berlusconi himself is said to have interpreted the expression of an underage prostitute as a "... rite in his ( Muammar al-Gaddafi's ) African harem". Finally, the actress Sabina Began also claimed to be the origin of “Bunga Bunga”; it was simply her nickname and she organized the parties.

The term "Bunga Bunga" is a nonsense word in this context. Its use as a phonetic imitation of "primitive" (African) languages ( pseudo-borrowing ) has been proven since 1910 at the latest. The word appeared as a paraphrase for sexual acts in jokes as early as the 20th century.
