Bungard ( German  Baumgarten , Hungarian Bongárd ) is a village in the Transylvania region in Romania .

Bungard is the southeastern neighboring village of Sibiu and is administratively part of the municipality Șelimbăr (Schellenberg) , three kilometers outside of the community center.

The A1 motorway has been running between Bungard and Șelimbăr since 2010 and is also the Sibiu city bypass. Parallel to the motorway route runs a railway line of the CFR .

history

Bungard is one of those Transylvanian towns founded by the Bulgarian Bogumils . The Bulgarian population assimilated itself to the Romanian majority population over the centuries.
