The Berliner Straße bunker is a former factory air raid shelter in the St. Jürgen district of Lübeck . The building was completed during the Second World War as a high bunker for the Reichsbahn on the site of the former Lübeck-Genin repair shop .

building

Based on the Leo Winkel design , it has the shape of a cone; the bombs should ricochet. The nine-storey bunker has a projecting roof over a lookout as a tower observer. The free-standing air raid shelter was too close to the tracks, so that 30 cm had to be cut off again.

Cityscape

The bunker was built near Kronsford Allee, where the former access road to the depot was located. In adaptation to medieval defense structures, the roof was covered with shingles, the structure remained exposed to concrete.

history

The company's own building for the factory air raid protection was built in 1940 and was designed for 500 Deutsche Bahn employees. After the end of the war, demilitarization was required through demolition , which was not carried out. The repair shop from the time of the Lübeck-Büchener Railway was given up in 1959. The following changes in use and the partial demolition of factory buildings as well as the new construction left the bunker untouched.
