It was founded in Munich in 1984 and relocated its headquarters to Offenburg in 2002 . In recent years it has developed into a modern training facility for journalism in Germany. Three quarters of the training takes place in the Burda editorial offices, a quarter at the Burda journalism school. The chances of a follow-up contract after training are around 90%.

education

The two-year, dual training at the Burda School of Journalism prepares up to 25 volunteers per year for the profession of editor. Every student must have successfully passed the BJS entrance test (in June). The training starts three months later on October 1st and ends after two years on September 30th.

The curriculum includes the following topics: dealing with language, research, portrait, criticism, reporting, features, interviews, app design, basic features of HTML5 , CSS and JavaScript , SEO , dealing with image databases, press law, developing media brands.

Practice in the editorial offices

Most of the practical training (twelve months) takes place in the main editorial offices, for which each student decides according to his or her previous knowledge and interests. These include u. a. Focus , Bunte , Lisa, Fit for Fun and Superillu . During the so-called “second editorial team” (six months), the students get to know two other Burda editorial offices at other locations, some of them even abroad.
