Location of Burg in Bavaria |
Burg is a district of the city of Thannhausen in the Swabian district of Günzburg .
location
The village is about four kilometers south of Thannhausen on a steep hilltop on the eastern edge of the Mindeltal . To the west it is touched by State Road 2025 . Part of the industrial area to the south, although structurally connected to the castle, already belongs to the neighboring Balzhausen .
history
It is believed that the village lord of Balzhausen had a castle built in 1050 . Ruins of it were uncovered in 1753. The place is said to have been mentioned in writing for the first time in 1065. After a devastating fire broke out in the Ursberg Monastery not far from Burg in 1142 and some nuns were suspected of arson, Schwinhilde - the leader of these nuns, a daughter of Count von Balzhausen - founded a small monastery in Burg. During the peasant wars , farmers conquered several small towns near Burg in February 1525, including Thannhausen. An army campaign from Ulm inflicted a devastating defeat on this heap of farmers on May 31, 1525, as a result of which the towns of Burg and Balzhausen were burned down.
At the beginning of the 19th century, Burg became a municipality with the neighboring Nettershausen as a district. On January 1, 1977, this was incorporated into Thannhausen as part of the municipal reform.
