Ankershagen Castle

Ankershagen Castle is the ruin of a moated castle behind a hill near the manor house in today's Ankershagen Park in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The castle of the von Holstein family was probably built during the settlement wave of the 12th to 13th centuries and was probably destroyed in the course of the Thirty Years War . Today, the 2 to 3 meter high wall remains of the square castle tower still bear witness to the castle complex, which is protected by a 50 meter long and 8 meter wide rampart.

According to a legend, an underground corridor is supposed to connect the castle Ankershagen of the robber baron Henning von Holstein with the tower hill Kratzeburg .
