action

The nine-year-old Selma lives with the strict foster mother Ruth and misses her real family. She lost this 6 years ago. Ruth didn't want children and she can't handle them either. Like Winter and possibly Håkon, Ruth shows autistic traits. Since Ruth was only supposed to take in Selma and her dog Kaspar temporarily, Ruth does not want to enter into a closer relationship. It is noticeable that all scenes in the human world appear gray, cloudy and colorless. Only Selma wears color and is out of the ordinary. In the Scandinavian countries, Santa Claus is called Jul or Jule, i.e. Julius. One wishes for a "Got Jul" for a good Christmas.

December 1st is a special day in Schneewelt , the home of Santa Claus . There Julius is the current Santa Claus at the age of 273. His retirement is just around the corner. But before that he still needs a new apprentice after his son Albin stayed as an apprentice in the WD (Welt Outside).

On December 2nd, Selma meets Håkon who is currently looking for his way to his new school. Håkon collects all available information about Santa Claus. In Schneewelt, Ole Winter, Santa's secretary, finds an old wish list from Ruth, who was nine at the time, behind the Christmas mailbox. She wanted a lot of books. Santa Claus fulfills this wish by blowing on a Christmas ball and placing it in a box that never gets full. Suddenly Ruth inherits a second-hand bookshop from a distant relative.

On December 3rd, Julius is called to the oracle in the garden, who names the new Santa Claus apprentice. Since it is always dark and winter in the snow world, a portal was built into the garden. It's always sunny and spring there. Selma hums along with Julius' song and even gets a donut from Ruth on the way home from the antique shop. Selma receives Santa's magical radio messages.

On the fourth of December you can see how Selma finds more and more pleasure in the second-hand bookshop that Ruth has inherited and wants to get rid of as soon as possible. Julius reads Selma's wish list. She wants a real family because her parents Albin and Liv died six years ago. Albin was also the name of Julius' son, who stayed out in the world .

On the fifth day , Selma enters the snow world through a secret portal in the antiquarian bookshop . Ruth believes that Selma has finally been brought into a new foster family by the youth welfare office. Winter learns that he will not be Santa Claus' new apprentice and forges plans for revenge, as he sees himself as Santa's hard-working secretary for many years in his natural successor position.

On December 6th, Selma wakes up in the snow world and is met by Julius. For breakfast she bakes pancakes with him. Ole Winter goes into the dark forest and absorbs evil. Ruth now misses Selma and Julius finds out that Selma is the daughter of his son Albin and thus his granddaughter.

On the morning of the seventh day , Julius disappeared. Nobody knows where he is. Only Winter claims that he flew away on the sledge. Selma meets Pil and Frida and is persuaded by them to go to school. However, they are put off by the many questions from the other children who have never been out in the world .

The next day , Selma begins in Gertrud's bakery with warm milk rolls. Today, for the first time, Ole Winter welcomes the snow world, who has proclaimed himself to represent Julius. Selma talks about the outside world in the snowman school and is bombarded with questions again. The big difference between the strict WD school and the very free and fun Snow World School is striking again. Frida shows Selma the snow world. Homesick, Selma writes a letter to Ruth. Unfortunately, the letters only come to Santa Claus and not come back. Gertrud had tried and written to her friend Albin. Surprisingly, however, the letter bird makes its way to the WD when everyone is asleep.

The ninth of December is designated as cleaning and snow removal day by Ole Winter. Winter has taken over the management of the snow world after kidnapping Santa Claus himself. With Frida and Pil, Selma has made two friends in the snow world. In the evening, Winter invites her to dinner to find out what Selma, who appeared surprisingly, heard of Julius' kidnapping.

December 10th is the day of the Christmas party. Actually Julius wanted to announce Santa's new apprentice that day. Winter introduces himself as the successor to Santa Claus. Julius hung up his hat. But the residents want to look for Santa Claus. But you shouldn't look in the garden, since Winter saw him drive up to the plateau. In the outside world, Ruth sees the letter from Selma fluttering up and unfolding in front of her. At the end of the episode you can see that Ole took Julius to a hell in the dark forest and put him into an eternal sleep with the sleep fog. Winter breaks Santa's hat.

On December 11th, the search for Julius begins against Ole Winter's will. The children are not allowed to search because it is too dangerous. In school lessons, Pil Selma shows the dark forest in the garden. In Ruth's antiquarian bookshop, Håkon sets up a mailbox for letters to Julius. He tells Ruth about the snow world and letter birds, which Ruth read about in Selma's letter. Ruth finds Håkon rather annoying and just wants to get rid of him and the second-hand bookshop quickly. But Håkon is not that easy to get rid of. Winter demands his immediate appointment as Santa Claus. In addition, the picture of Winter should now be hung, which Gundis, Frida's mother should paint. Winter forges a suicide note from Julius to convince the residents that Julius no longer wants to be Santa Claus.

The snow world was completely searched for Julius and apart from his hat, which Winter had placed there, nothing was found. Winter presents Julius' farewell letter. But the residents hesitate to listen to winter. In addition, the traditional Snow World Cup, a snowball fight, will take place on December 12th. Winter is such fun, but nobody listens to him and he also has to be the referee. He becomes the victim of a Christmas joke because the prepared binoculars give him black circles under the eyes. When Selma injures Frida, Winter sees the chance to get Selma out of the way.

On December 13th, Gertrud Selma explains that she will probably not be able to return to Ruth until Christmas. Ruth tells Håkon about Selma's letter. At night this folded up into a letter bird at Selma's and surprisingly flew to Ruth, who from then on doubted her sanity. Håkon is thrilled, as this proves his letter bird theory and thinks it should write back. Winter is named Santa Claus. When his picture is revealed, the dark circles under the eyes, which, as Christmas jokes, disfigure his picture.

December 14th is cleaning and snow shoveling day. Since the winter of Santa Claus, there are only new rules every day instead of friendly words in the morning. He forbids milk rolls and access to the garden, as the sleeping mist would spread there until he is the new Santa Claus and even snowball fights are forbidden. Winter now has to blow on the Christmas balls, but it doesn't work. He cannot do it in the chaos of the school and retires to his house. So that he is no longer bothered, he appoints Stål to be caretaker and lets him build a lock in his door. Håkon answers the letter and Ruth admits that she misses Selma. While cleaning up the school and Julius 'apartment, Selma finds her grandfather Julius' diary. Julius still had a lot to do with Selma and didn't look as depressed as Winter makes it look. Winter hears her talking about it and sends her to clean up snowshoes.

Slema, Frida and Pil puzzle over Julius' diary and want to find their friend in the garden. But Ole gives them so many tasks that they don't have to go to the garden. Surprisingly, they find a new entry in the diary that Winter wrote down. Håkon advertises Ruth's second-hand bookshop with the Santa Claus mailbox. In the snow world, the wish list birds are missing that have not been there since Ole Winter became Santa Claus. Winter now has to write the letters himself and wants practical things like cleaning buckets and toothbrushes because he lacks the imagination for children's wishes.

On the 16th day , Ole Winter overslept and woke up to the wrong wish list that he wanted to put in the mailbox. Pil, Frida and Selma meet the forest spirit Trixter, Julius' secret friend, in the garden. He is certain that the sleep fog is not spreading. Ruth now feels like the owner of the antiquarian bookshop and is starting to enjoy her job.

On December 17th, Ole blocked the access to the garden so that the children could no longer secretly search there. But they use a secret portal in a dresser that Selma's father had conjured up there. In the meantime, Winter has banned milk rolls, which not everyone abides by. Håkon and his father Kjell spend the night in the antique shop to see how the wish lists are on their way.

Unfortunately, both fell asleep overnight. Ole is reminded that he needs to practice sledding. He would like to skip the trip to the WD because he suffers from a fear of flying, but this would probably go too far. Meanwhile Trixter shows Selma Julius' sleigh. This is proof that Julius didn't fly away, but the sled is too heavy to move. Frida fetches her father at night to transport the sledge, as he is the strongest inhabitant of the snow world.

On December 19, Julius' old sleigh is in the market square. Winter is taken aback, threatens Frida's father as the only adult witness, leaves Selma, Frida and Pil standing there as liars and tells them that he had built this sled himself. In the WD Ruth happens to find a family who would look after the dog and a potential buyer for the second-hand bookshop.

On December 20th the oracle calls Selma to her. It leads her into the garden and gives her a prophecy in a strange language. Frida and Pil are arrested in the room. Kaspar returns to Ruth and she hesitates to sign the sales contract.

Frida manages to decipher the oracle's message. They learn that Julius sleeps in the shadowy den. The solution is in a book about the Dark Forest, which Ole Winter borrowed. To get the book, the other children of the snow world have to distract winter. In the book you will also find test versions of Julius' forged suicide note and how Winter practiced the signature. Ruth is happy about the decision to keep the bookshop. But she misses Selma more and more.

On December 22nd, Frida, Pil and Selma go into the dark forest to find the shadow cave. The heartbeat of Julius shows Selma the way. But there are traps and only Selma can walk through the sleep fog without air. She always holds her breath when she is sad and has practiced so much that it is now enough to make her way through the fog. A flock of letter birds flutters around in front of the entrance to the cave and Selma is finally able to wake her grandfather by reading letters from children to him. Gertrud receives the ingredients to bake milk rolls for the snow world black market as a gift. When Winter finds out, he closes the bakery.

Julius returns on the 23rd day and Winter is convicted of a liar. Now he needs help to work off the flood of wish lists. When they're done, Winter tries to steal the box with the bullets. In doing so, it falls down and breaks all the balls that have already been blown. All balls need to be remade, but time is too short. Meanwhile, Ruth hopes that Selma will celebrate Christmas with her. At the end it is also revealed that Pil is the new apprentice and can blow the balls.

It is done all balls have been remade. Selma says goodbye to the snow world as she travels back to the world outside. Meanwhile, Winter apologizes sincerely to Julius. Trixter is really Julius' best reindeer. Håkon and his father Kjell want to celebrate Christmas with Ruth, but she refuses. Kjell gives Ruth a red blouse, which now also makes her stand out from the gray. Ruth spends Christmas Eve alone in the antiquarian bookshop until Selma arrives. For the patient audience there is a surprising bonus scene with Håkon and Julius after the credits.
