history

Baldeck Castle (from Middle High German baldw = bold) was built around 1250 by the noble lords of Baldeck, who were followers of the Counts of Urach . In 1256 the castle was documented by Counts Rudolf von Tübingen, Ulrich von Württemberg and Hartmann von Grüningen during a siege. The castle probably fell victim to the siege and was abandoned in the first half of the 16th century. Around 1700 the ruin, popularly known as the "Mörderschlössle", was probably demolished so that it could no longer be used as a hideout for robbers. Only a few remains of the walls and steps carved into the rock remain from the former castle complex.
