Castle Cheap

The castle cheap are the remains of a medieval lowland castle on the outskirts of cheap , a district of Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The lost castle was probably of Roman-Celtic origin. In terms of the type and size of the hill surrounding the moat, it was certainly medieval .

The fortified seat of the nobility in the Jülich subordination is mentioned in connection with the Smeyge (Schmeich) von Billig at the end of the 14th century. This family also owned the Zievel castle and also owned Eicks and Pesch.

The castle hill is a square moth with a base of 27 × 27 m and a height of 5 m. The trenches are fed by springs and are still filled with water today.

There are neither remains of buildings nor foundations. On the original map from 1828, the area of the former outer bailey is shown with a size of 60 × 60 m.
