The castle Boisdorf was a Wasserburg in Kerpen in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia , which fell victim to the lignite mining.

history

The exact origins of the castle complex are unclear, as there are several documented mentions of different names, although it is not certain whether they are related to the castle complex.

It is certain that the castle complex was given as a fief in 1548 by Duke Wilhelm of Jülich to Wilhelm Scheiffarth von Merode. The Cologne mayor of Gail came into their possession in the meantime. Then it went to the von Mühlheim, von Mylius and Molinari families. In 1836, Count Beissel von Gymnich received the castle complex.

investment

The complex was a two-part moated castle and had a rectangular two-and-a-half-storey mansion with a stair tower facing the courtyard . The outer bailey area used as a farmyard had a baroque half-timbered building with a mansard roof , which was accessible from the surrounding area via an arched bridge.

On the open side of the outer bailey area was the three-wing mansion on another island, which could also be reached via a bridge. The two somewhat smaller courtyards, identical in floor plan and originally Baroque, were attached to the corners of the manor house. The U-shaped building had a late Gothic tower used as a staircase in the right corner of the courtyard . The two two-and-a-half-storey courtyard tracks each had a window front and were slightly smaller than the manor house itself.

At the back of the manor house was a small garden that was later used as a cottage garden and was secured from the moat by moat walls . Originally there were two round towers at the corners of the garden, but they were removed during redesign work at the beginning of the 19th century.
