history

The moated castle of the rural nobility was probably built in the 16th century. Remnants of the complex have been preserved as an island and on it in the former Gutsteich. This castle was probably built by the Lords of Niederpöllnitz . Later the owners changed several times. Most recently, the property with around 300 hectares of land belonged to the Seydewitz family . This was expropriated in 1945. Her estate and the mansion on the island were demolished except for the corner tower. Two towers were dismantled in the 19th century. Between the other two towers stood the three-storey palace with an extension and a high pitched roof and a stair tower . The facade had rectangular windows because it was the 16th century complex. Strategically, the castle was probably intended for the security of its own territory and to support the control of the long-distance trade route Nuremberg - Schleiz - Leipzig - Berlin , which passed a little west of the place.
