The Burg Holtrup is an Outbound Höhenburg at 112 meters above sea level height on the "Castle Hill" (Burgstätte) above the Weser in the district Holtrup the city Porta Westfalica in Minden-Lübbecke in North Rhine-Westphalia .
description
The remains of Holtrup Castle consist of an approximately 43 × 23 m oval ring wall which is surrounded by a 4-5 m deep moat . The complex was probably built in the 9th or 10th century and could have served as a robber baron's castle to monitor the nearby Weserfurt . The builder of the castle is not known. Possibly the castle was the ancestral seat of the knight family von Holtorpe, which is first documented in writing in 1381.
The castle stable on the Schlossberg, protected as a ground monument , is still recognizable today as a rampart with a moat .
