Holtrup is a district of the city of Porta Westfalica in the Minden-Lübbecke district in North Rhine-Westphalia with around 1060 inhabitants.

Holtrup is more of an agricultural area, but today it also has an extensive industrial area. The district of Vössen is located on the Weser and has a campsite. The ferry at a very shallow spot ( ford ) on the Weser is no longer in operation. The most striking building in the village is the Protestant church , whose Romanesque tower dates from the beginning of the 11th century and whose Gothic nave was built in 1517/18.

history

The Schlossberg is said to have once been the location of Holtrup Castle , which could overlook the Weserfurt from there. In Minden Cathedral there is a reference to a knight Kurt von Holtrup. On the Schlossberg, the floor plan with the suggested moat can be guessed at today. With a little effort you can reach an unmarked lookout point from there, from which there is a view of Bad Oeynhausen and the Weser Valley in front of it. Right next to the Schlossberg is the village soccer field, home of FC Blau Weiß Holtrup.

Little is known about the history and function of the so-called "Roman Island" on Oberloh. In addition to the assumption that the complex was a Roman outpost, the Roman island is also classified as a moth in the High Middle Ages. An elevation with a moat that was fed by a spring can be seen. Around 1976 children playing there found a Roman coin from the 2nd century AD.

In the Middle Ages, Holtrup was located on one of the most important long-distance, trade and military routes in northern Germany. The so-called Frankfurter Weg crossed the Weser at a ford in today's district of Vössen.

In the Holtrup church , there is an art-historically significant statue of the Virgin and twelve apostle figures belonging to the so-called Hildesheim Benedict Master from the early 16th century. The church building has existed in its current form since the early 16th century, the tower dates from the 11th century.

At the time, the Protestant Lutheran parish of Holtrup-Uffeln included the inhabitants of the political community of Uffeln , which has been independent since 1858 and which has belonged to the city of Vlotho and thus to the Herford district since the territorial reform of 1973 . The Evangelical Lutheran parish of Uffeln has been independent since 2007, while the district of Holtrup (since 1983 linked to the district of Vennebeck) now belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Holzhausen and Holtrup an der Porta.

In the center of the village is the fire station of the local fire fighting group of the volunteer fire brigade , which has now been in existence for 70 years.

On January 1, 1973, Holtrup was incorporated into the new town of Porta Westfalica.
