Holzhausen an der Porta (formerly also known as "Holzhausen I") is a district of the town of Porta Westfalica in the Minden-Lübbecke district in East Westphalia .

Holzhausen is south of the Weser Mountains and east of the Weser . In the east Holzhausen borders on the districts of Veltheim and Hausberge , in the north, separated by the Weser, on Barkhausen , in the west on Costedt , Vennebeck and Holtrup and in the south on Möllbergen .

history

Holzhausen was first mentioned by name in a document in 1099 as Holthusum. The settlement history goes back to Germanic times, u. a. it is assumed that the parcel "Am Jungfernholz" was a Germanic cult site.

Until the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1973, Holzhausen an der Porta was an independent municipality with a total area of ​​around 8.92 km² and 3611 inhabitants. She belonged to the office of Hausberge in the Minden district . Currently (as of December 31, 2017) Holzhausen has 4194 inhabitants.

Special buildings

The Evangelical Lutheran church in the center of the village dates back to medieval times. It was expanded in the 17th century. The choir is painted with frescoes; the flagellation of Christ is depicted in the center.

Maschmeyer's mill, as the Holzhauser mill is called, is already marked in old cadastral documents from 1837 at the location of today's mill. It is not clear whether this is today's mill. To this day, the construction date of the Wall Dutchman with his plastered conical quarry stone tower is not known.

Holzhausen and its mill are part of the Westphalian Mühlenstrasse and the Mühlenroute .

The Good Oheimb is currently vacant former mansion .

Gut Amorkamp is also privately owned . The manor of the estate, a former moated castle, is now a listed building.
