Location of icebergs in Porta Westfalica

Eisbergen is a district of the city of Porta Westfalica in the East Westphalian district of Minden-Lübbecke in North Rhine-Westphalia with 3608 inhabitants (December 31, 2005). The district is characterized by agriculture in the hilly loess area.

geography

Icebergs are located south of the Weser Mountains and north of the Weser . In the east, Eisbergen borders the town of Rinteln in the Schaumburg district ( Lower Saxony ), in the north on Kleinenbremen and Wülpke , in the west on Lohfeld and Veltheim and in the south on the district of Varenholz in the municipality of Kalletal in the district of Lippe .

history

According to the Hildburg legend, the churches of Wester- and Ostereisberge were founded in 896. The first documentary mention can be traced back to the year 1029. In 1033, Bishop Sigebert von Minden donated everything that belongs to him in icebergs to St. Martin's monastery.

In 1540 the Reformation took place in icebergs. In 1629/30 the water mill was built in Fülme .

Standard German was introduced as the official language in 1626. That year, the plague raged in icebergs, killing 515. In 1665, 20 children attended the Fülmer school.

In 1818 Eisbergen-Fülme had 1040 inhabitants. In 1851 the previously independent communities of Fülme and Lohfeld were incorporated. On October 14, 1886, Lohfeld was once again an independent municipality through outsourcing.

Eisbergen received a connection to the railway line Löhne - Hildesheim , now known as the Weserbahn , in 1875 to the then Hanover-Altenbekener railway . When it was dismantled in the 1990s and 2000s, the icebergs stop was dismantled. In 1923 icebergs were connected to the power supply of the Minden-Ravensberg electricity company . In October 1919 construction began on the first Eisberger Weser Bridge, which was inaugurated on December 13, 1920.

On May 13, 1945 twelve people drowned when the makeshift ferry capsized below the blown bridge. In 1946 the bridge was restored.

On June 11, 1965 an F-104 Starfighter of the Bundeswehr crashed between Lohfeld and Eisbergen . The pilot Günter Pethke (1937–1966) was killed in the process. Today a memorial stone on the European long-distance hiking trail E11 commemorates the accident.

Until the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1973, Eisbergen was an independent municipality with a total area of around 14.71 km² and 3242 inhabitants. She belonged to the office of Hausberge in the Minden district .

politics

Eisbergen, along with Veltheim and Lohfeld, is part of District Committee V of the city of Porta Westfalica.

Windmill icebergs

Attractions

Eisbergen and its mill are part of the Westphalian Mill Road and the Mill Route .

The Erdholländer was built around 1855 and moved to its current location on the edge of icebergs (Ahmserort) in 1989/92. The lower half of the mill was made of rubble stone and the upper half of carefully worked sandstone. The mill tower is only slightly conical and again has a compass rose system and louvre blades. On the night of January 18-19, 2007, the mill was destroyed by storm Kyrill because the safety measures were inadequate. Despite the brake being applied, the wings started moving. Because of the heat that developed, the windmill burned down to the ground. The windmill is also known under the name Röckemanns Mühle . First, the mill was secured by the Frille (Petershagen) mill farm and the damage was disposed of. A temporary cap protected the mill body from rain and other weather-related damage. In 2008, the reconstruction began. The mill has been grindable again since 2009. Participation in the meal and baking days was not interrupted during this time.

Church in icebergs

Today's Eisberger Church seems to have been built around 1200 as a single-nave building with a west tower; the Romanesque tower is one of the oldest in the church district of Vlotho . After the Thirty Years War (until 1662), a second nave was added to the existing nave facing south. The furnishings of the church from the 17th century ( baptismal font from 1606, altar and pulpit from 1607) and the interior decoration by Paul Thol (from Berlin) from 1953, which is extraordinarily decisive for today's overall impression and offers an extensive, biblical-theologically oriented image program, are worth seeing . The original patronage of the church is St. George .

In the former uniform factory on Weserstraße there has been a Benedictine monastery since 2009 , which is managed by Abbot Thomas Komossa OSB orth. The convention members have belonged to the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad since 2013 . They have permission from the First Hierarch of the Church Abroad, Metropolitan Hilarion (Kapral), to whom they report directly , to celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours and Holy Mass according to the traditional Western rite . The other sacraments are, as is customary in general Orthodoxy, administered according to the Byzantine rite .

economy

Volksbank Eisbergen merged with Volksbank Minden on January 1, 2011 .
