Church district Vlotho

The church district Vlotho is one of 27 church districts within the Evangelical Church of Westphalia . Its area extends over the south-eastern part of the Minden-Lübbecke district and the eastern part of the Herford district .

History and structure

The church district of Vlotho was formed in 1841 from parts of the church districts of Herford and Minden (at that time still called "dioceses") . It currently (as of February 2020) consists of 19 Protestant parishes with 34 parishes and around 60,000 parishioners. One parish is of the Reformed denomination ( Vlotho - Johannis ), all other parishes have arisen (through parishes and reorganizations) from parishes that were shaped by the Lutheran Reformation . By pastors like Ferdinand Huhold (1841–1846 in Vlotho, 1846–1880 in Hausberge , 1841–1849 and 1854–1880 also Superintendent ), Karl Kuhlo (1851–1868 in Valdorf ) and Eduard Kuhlo (1854–1891 in Gohfeld ) was the Church district in the 19th century was strongly influenced by the revival movement . From 1927 to 1948 Pastor Karl Koch from Bad Oeynhausen was part-time superintendent of the church district; Since he played a leading role in the Confessing Church , Bad Oeynhausen became the scene of the fourth Synod of the Confession of the Reich in 1936.

Around 50  pastors serve in the parishes, but also in schools, hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation clinics and old people's homes. The church district of Vlotho is regionally connected with the neighboring church districts of Herford , Lübbecke and Minden to form a church district association.

Management structure

Main focus of church work

In 29 churches, also in Bad Oeynhausen in the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia , in the Zweckverbandkrankenhaus, in the Johanneskapelle of the Johanniter order houses and in the Auguste Victoria Clinic for Orthopedics, as well as in a variety of old people's, nursing and retirement homes Protestant services take place regularly in the parishes belonging to the parish of Vlotho. The Diakonisches Werk im Kirchenkreis Vlotho e. V. provides outpatient, nursing and social basic care and is available to those seeking help in various advisory services. The central office of the Diakonisches Werk in Kirchenkreis is located at Elisabethstrasse 25 in Bad Oeynhausen.

Partnerships

For more than 20 years there has been a partnership between the church district Vlotho and the church district Tambarare in Tanzania , which belongs to the northeast diocese of the Lutheran Church of Tanzania. The church district maintains other partnerships with various social and diaconal institutions and parishes in Portugal , Sicily , Carinthia and Slovakia .
