Nowa Morawa (German Neumohrau also: Neu Mohrau ) is a village in the powiat Kłodzki in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . It belongs to the urban and rural municipality Stronie Śląskie , from which it is six kilometers south. The place is located at 620–700 m altitude near the border with the Czech Republic .
Geography and climate
Nowa Morawa is located on the upper Mohrau ( Morawka ) in the Glatzer Schneegebirge on the western slope of the Bielengebirge . The road runs through the village and leads over the 817 m high Platzenberger Pass ( Przełęcz Płoszczyna ; Czech: Kladské sedlo ) to Staré Město in Moravia. Neighboring towns are Stara Morawa and Bolesławów in the north, Młynowiec in the northeast, Kamienica in the west and Kletno in the northwest. Across the border with the Czech Republic lie the Moravian villages Nová Seninka ( Spieglitz ), Nový Rumburk ( Neu Rumburg ) and Kunčice ( Kunzendorf ).
The mountainous location leads to a cool, rainy climate. Eight kilometers to the southwest, Śnieżnika / Glatzer Schneeberg , 1425 meters high, is covered with snow for up to eight months a year.
history
Neumohrau was founded in 1596 as a colony of Altmohrau. It belonged to the County of Glatz and was owned by the Bohemian Chamber . In 1684 it consisted of a board mill and 19 piece people. In that year, together with other chamber villages in the Landeck district, it was acquired by the Governor of Glatz, Michael Wenzel von Althann . He formed the rule Seitenberg from the acquired villages .
After the Silesian Wars , Neumohrau fell to Prussia together with the County of Glatz in 1763 with the Peace of Hubertusburg . At the beginning of the 19th century it consisted of 32 gardeners and cottagers . After the reorganization of Prussia, it belonged to the province of Silesia from 1815 and was initially incorporated into the district of Glatz . In 1818 it was reclassified to the district of Habelschwerdt , with which it remained connected until 1945. Since 1874 the rural community Neumohrau belonged to the district of Kamnitz and since 1908 to the district of Wilhelmsthal. Since the end of the 19th century Neumohrau has developed into a popular resort and winter sports destination. In 1939 there were 252 inhabitants.
As a result of the Second World War , Neumohrau fell to Poland and was renamed Nowa Morawa . The number of residents decreased significantly, which resulted in numerous houses being left to decay. From 1975-1998 Nowa Morawa belonged to the Wałbrzych Voivodeship ( Waldenburg ). Since the political change of 1989, Nowa Morawa's tourist importance has increased.
Mutiusgrund Colony
The Mutiusgrund colony was established on Altwasser and Gellenau in 1792 by the then owner of the Seitenberg lordship, the royal judiciary Franz Bernhard von Mutius . It was later united with the village of Neumohrau and in 1815 consisted of eight colonist houses.
