Joseph Kögler (born February 22, 1765 in Lewin ; † May 30, 1817 in Ullersdorf an der Biele ) was a priest and historical researcher in the county of Glatz .

Life

His parents were the weaver and church father Ignatz Kögler and Anna Rosalia, b. Hauf, daughter of the Lewin municipal garbage collector. Joseph Kögler attended the Glatzer Catholic Royal High School and lived in the associated Konvikt . From 1780 he prepared as a member of the Marian Congregation BV Mariae Annunciatae in Breslau for university studies, which he began in 1783 at the University of Breslau . As early as 1784 he completed the subject of philosophy with a licentiate and in 1785 with the Magister exam ( Magister of liberal arts and philosophy ). He then studied theology and was ordained a priest on March 8, 1788 in the episcopal palace. First he was chaplain in Bad Reinerz , from 1791 chaplain in Rengersdorf . In 1807 he became a pastor in Ullersdorf an der Biele at the suggestion of the landlord, Reichsgraf von Magnis .

Kögler was the first critical and scientifically working history researcher in the County of Glatz. With an immeasurable amount of work, he collected and studied historical archives, wrote descriptions of places, parishes and rulers and made an extensive collection of transcripts of documents, most of which, however, could only be printed decades after his death.

The former Kögler archive is largely preserved and is located in the Archbishop's Diocesan Archives in Wroclaw (Archiwum Archidiecezjalne, ul. Kanonia 12, PL 50-328 Wrocław). A current inventory was published in 2000.
