Stara Morawa (German: Altmohrau ; also: Alt Mohrau) is a village in the powiat Kłodzki in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland. It belongs to the urban and rural municipality Stronie Śląskie , from which it is three kilometers south.

geography

Stara Morawa is located on the upper Mohre ( Morawka ), a left tributary of the Biele , between the Glatzer Schneegebirge and the Bielengebirge . Neighboring towns are Stronie Śląskie in the north, Młynowiec in the northeast, Bolesławów and Nowa Morawa in the south, Kletno in the southwest and Sienna in the west.

history

Mohrau belonged to the Karpenstein lordship in 1346 and probably fell into desolation in the 15th century. In 1588 it was re-established on cleared, sovereign forest land and, after the establishment of the Neumohrau colony to the south, was named Altmohrau from 1596 . It belonged to the County of Glatz and was owned by the Bohemian Chamber . The latter sold it in 1684, together with other chamber villages in the Landecker district, to the governor of Glatz, Michael Wenzel von Althann , who formed the Seitenberg rule from the acquired villages and remained connected with the Altmohrau until 1945. In 1939 there were 257 inhabitants. As a result of the Second World War , Altmohrau fell to Poland and was renamed Stara Morawa . The number of residents decreased significantly. In the years 1975-1998 Stara Morawa belonged to the Wałbrzych Voivodeship ( Waldenburg ). The number of inhabitants has increased through the promotion of tourism since the political change of 1989.
