Lohfeld is a district of the town of Porta Westfalica in the Minden-Lübbecke district in East Westphalia .

geography

Lohfeld is located south of the Weser Mountains . The district borders the Eisbergen district in the east , Wülpke and Nammen in the north, Hausberge in the west and Veltheim in the south .

history

Lohfeld was first mentioned in a document in 1562 as Loveldt. Bishop Georg von Minden had two courtyards settled.

The municipality of Lohfeld was created on October 14th, 1886 when it was separated from the municipality of Eisbergen .

On June 11, 1965 an F-104 Starfighter of the Bundeswehr crashed. The pilot Günter Pethke (1937–1965) was killed in the process. Today a memorial stone on the European long-distance hiking trail E11 commemorates the accident.

Until the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1973, Lohfeld was an independent municipality with a total area of ​​around 8.20 km² and 1101 inhabitants. She belonged to the office of Hausberge in the Minden district . On December 31, 2017, Lohfeld had 1,358 inhabitants. The vast majority is of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination.

The scattered settlement is characteristic of Lohfeld. No central town center has formed over the centuries; The construction of a parish hall in 1964 and the construction of the Protestant church at the intersection of Lohfelder Strasse and Eisberger Strasse in 1984 did not result in this either.
