Nammen (formerly also Nammen an der Porta ) is a district in the northeast of the area of ​​the East Westphalian city ​​of Porta Westfalica in the Minden-Lübbecke district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The district lies north of the Weser Mountains . In the east Nammen borders on Wülpke , in the north on the Röcke district of the city of Bückeburg in the Schaumburg district ( Lower Saxony ), in the west on the Lerbeck district and the Meißen district of the city of Minden and in the south on Hausberge and Lohfeld .

history

Nammen was first mentioned in a document in 1270 under the name "Namnen". There has been a school in Nammen since at least 1650. Nammen never had its own parish church and originally belonged to the parish of Petzen in the county of Schaumburg , although Nammen belonged to the Principality of Minden . After the principality and with it names had become Brandenburg , new farms were parish off to Lerbeck in Brandenburg , while the old ones stayed with Petzen, which was controversial with regard to the taxes. It was not until April 1, 1911 that the Nammer, which had previously belonged to Petzen, were finally re-parish to Lerbeck after offsetting the capital assets and debts.

In the Weser Mountains there is the former Wallburg Nammer Lager , which was named after the district.

Until the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1973, Nammen was an independent municipality with a total area of ​​around 9.12 km² and 2416 inhabitants. She belonged to the office of Hausberge in the Minden district .

On December 31, 2017, Nammen had 2,264 inhabitants.

Together with Kleinenbremen and Wülpke, Nammen forms District Committee IV of the city of Porta Westfalica. The chairman is Jörg Achilles.

Attractions

Laurentius Chapel Nammen

The Laurentius Chapel is a landmark of the district . The chapel was rebuilt in 1523. In 1654, today's old bell (with a cable for manual operation) was installed. Another bell with an automatic drive was installed in 1986. St. Laurentius was renovated in 1811, 1837, 1927, 1958, 1985 and 1995.

There were numerous lime kilns along the northern slopes of the Wiehen and Weser Mountains. There were also numerous lime kilns in Nammen. The last were abandoned in 1965. The Timmerberg furnace has been renovated as a monument, but has since been torn down.

The Nammer forest is ideal for hiking. Until the 1950s there was "Bad Nammen", a restaurant with a bathing facility.

The Nammer Klippen nature reserve is located in the Weser Mountains .

Others

Nammen is on the Minden - Kleinenbremen circular railway line. There is an industrial area next to residential buildings near the thoroughfare and the connection to Kleinenbremen .
