Evangelical Church Holzhausen
The Evangelical Church in Holzhausen , a district of Porta Westfalica , is the parish church of the Evangelical Parish of Holzhausen, which belongs to the Vlotho parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .
The church building dates back to the High Middle Ages and was expanded in the early modern period .
Building history and architecture
The exact construction time of the church is unknown, the Romanesque style of the oldest parts still existing today suggests the 12th century . Originally it was a two-bay hall church with a retracted, single - bay east choir , apse and a west tower .
In the baroque period , the nave was expanded to double its width to the north. The vaults were replaced by a wooden ceiling. Two entrances were built into the north side of the ship , one of which is marked 1719. At the apse there are round arched windows, the late Gothic windows on the nave are pointed arches and partly with tracery .
A portal was built into the Romanesque tower, which is covered with a gable roof , in 1669 . It is open to the nave on two floors, and both have cross vaults . The sound holes are in two parts with central columns.
Furnishing
In the interior of the church there are wall paintings from the 15th century. The oldest works of art include two late Gothic goblets made of gold-plated silver, one of which dates from 1624. A twelve-armed bronze chandelier in the Renaissance style is from 1650.
