Höngdobel is a Bavarian band that cannot be assigned to any particular genre, but has many elements of jazz , classical , blues , klezmer and samba . It was founded in 1994 and existed until 2006. After the dissolution, the members formed anew and made more modern music under the name "Rip Van Winkle".

history

In 1994 a former punk and rock band from the Munich area was founded under the name "Höngdobel".

With its concise style, a mixture of jazz, klezmer and Bavarian folk music, Höngdobel attracted local attention. The band has been on tour several times with cabaret artists such as Jörg Hube or Sigi Zimmigart . The five musicians compose and interpret music for all occasions.

In 2002 Höngdobel released her last album with her most famous songs. In 2005 a number of more modern pieces of music were recorded. The band called itself from 2006 "Rip Van Winkle" (after the story Rip Van Winkle ). In 2009 the album "Songs From The Funny Farm" came out, which has completely different sounds than before: The sound is largely electronic and can be assigned to more popular genres such as pop or soft rock. The overall impression is much quieter and less danceable than Höngdobel's music.

style

The music style is versatile and cannot be assigned to any particular style. Numerous style elements are represented, such as folk music, jazz, klezmer, blues, folk, flamenco and hip-hop.

The lyrics are very lyrical and unusual for singing, which makes the whole work stand out from the usual framework. It is sung in an ancient way of funny, sad or just funny things.
