Manor Gut Oheimb

Gut Oheimb is a former manor house in the village of Holzhausen in the city of Porta Westfalica in the Minden-Lübbecke district . The Oheimb estate was previously named "Grauer Hof", "Gronen Hof" and "Gut Holzhausen". It lies south of the Weser Mountains and east of the Weser .

history

Gut Holzhausen around 1860, Alexander Duncker collection

The estate was first mentioned in a document when the noblewoman Reinmildes received the episcopal estate for lifelong use in 1099. In 1170 the Minden bishop Werner bought back the farm from Reinmilde's daughter Reinmuldis, who was then abbess of Wunstorf. The next known owner was from 1339 to 1344 the squire Ludolf von Slon, who in a document dated June 24, 1319 together with Dethard von Slon renounced the bailiwick of the Margaret Chapel on the Wittekindsberg .

The next owner, Johann von Grone, is not known until 1620. After the death of the last male owner of the von Grone family in 1772, ownership passed to their daughter Charlotte Lucie. She was married to Colonel Georg Wilhelm von Oheimb. The estate remained in the possession of the von Oheimb family until the middle of the 20th century. The size of the estate was 800 acres , including 350 acres of forest.

Alexander Wilhelm Heinrich von Oheimb became the owner of the estate in 1868. As district administrator of the Minden district , von Oheimb particularly advocated road construction and the school system. The initiative for the construction of the Kaiser Wilhelm monument came from von Oheimb, who also gave the opening speech on October 18, 1896 in the presence of the imperial couple. The estate was used as a military hospital in the last years of World War II and initially as a private clinic after the war. The German Red Cross bought the building in 1952 in order to run a maternity sanatorium there until the 1980s and later a mothers-and-child sanatorium. It was then used as a retirement home and then as a home for asylum seekers.

Park of the estate

Building and park

In 1690 a mansion was built on the site. After it was taken over by the German Red Cross, the park was repaired and expanded to include play and sunbathing areas and a pond. Some beautiful old trees have been preserved, otherwise the area is heavily overgrown.

The family v. Schellersheim ( Rittergut Eisbergen ) is located on the western edge of the park.

Todays use

The property is the private property of the "Habitat Seniorenwohnheime" in Bad Sassendorf (Soest district) and is not open to the public.

The local community has taken care of the park. It is currently not clear whether the mansion will be demolished.
