location

The estate is located south of the Wiehen and Weser Mountains west of the Weser . The center of Bad Oeynhausen lies to the northwest and the city of Vlotho with Vlotho Castle on the Amtshausberg to the south .

history

Evidence about the Deesberg estate is only known from the 16th century. In 1567 the Droste Bertram von Landsberg, whose epitaph is in the St. Stephen's Church in Vlotho, moved his residence from the castle to Deesberg. In 1655 the estate was acquired by the Baron von der Horst. In 1709 the castle was sold for demolition, the prison and the barn remained at Gut Deesberg. From 1739 the estate was a state domain. The prison was lifted in 1858. Vlotho Castle belonged to the estate until 1889.

At the end of the 18th century, the estate's brickworks were founded by the then tenant Haccius. After the bricks were initially mainly fired for construction work on the property, his successor Carl Hentzen turned the brickworks into a real business enterprise. Ms. Major Blecken von Schmeling, who is listed in the files of 1909 as the owner of the estate and the brickworks, applied for a new ring kiln. The brick factory was closed in 1962.

Todays use

The estate has been owned by the Rolfsmeyer family since 1914 and is not open to the public. The estate became famous for its brickworks, later for mushroom cultivation and, since 1980, for organic farming. Today there are a few small businesses on the estate that use the former brick and mushroom growing buildings. All arable and grassland areas are farmed ecologically. The cultivation program today includes: grass clover, grain, rape, potatoes and so-called short rotation plantations on the former areas of the clay pits (fast-growing wood that is harvested every 3-4 years and used as fuel). Beef cattle are also kept, whose organic meat, like the other farm products, is sold directly from the farm.
