Buildings

Kaiser Wilhelm Monument

On the eastern slope of the mountain Wittekind rises to about 210  meters , the height of Emperor William Monument , the honor of the emperor in 1896 Wilhelm I was erected. It is a popular destination because the view offers views of parts of the surrounding mountains, a section of the Weser Valley and a southern area of the North German Plain.

Moltketurm

1 km ( straight line ) west of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial stands on the highest point of Wittekind mountain ( 281.48  m ) of 13.8 m high Moltke Tower , the 1828/29 as a lookout tower was built "Wittekind Stone" and 1906 in honor of Field Marshal General Helmuth Karl Bernhard von Moltke (1800 to 1891) was renamed Moltketurm. From its viewing platform, for example, you can see parts of the surrounding mountains, a section of the Weser Valley and a southern area of the North German Plain.

Wittekindsburg

Around 450 m (as the crow flies) west of the Moltketurm, at around 244  m above sea level, is the Wittekindsburg , a former refuge with the Wittekinds spring , which has now dried up. The foundations of the Kreuzkirche on the Wittekindsberg , which is covered by a protective glass structure, were discovered within the extensive Wallburg in 1996 . The Margaret Chapel from the 12th century stands near the foundations . A castle-like restaurant built in 1896/96 within the Wallburg attracts hikers and walkers.

Wittekindsquelle

The Wittekindsquelle on the Witteskindsberg dried up as early as 1938 as a result of mining work. This former spring is also traced back to the so-called spring miracle , which from a Christian and mystical point of view made Widukind's conversion possible. The spring was set in stone in the 19th century. The horseshoe symbol above the source grid alludes to its supposed origin: the exposure by the hoof scratching or the hoof step of Widukind's horse.
