Margarethenklus
The Margarethenklus (also Margaretenklus ) is a chapel in honor of St. Margaret of Antioch on the Wittekindsberg in Barkhausen , a district of the East Westphalian city of Porta Westfalica . Because of its proximity to Wittekindsburg , it is also known as the Wittekindskapelle .
history
The exact construction of Klus is unknown, their first recorded mention dates back to 1224. Maybe it belonged to a company founded in the 9th century by the hermit Thetwif and from Minden Bishop Milo in 992 renewed Benedictine monastery that already by 1000 by Minden relocated has been.
architecture
The chapel is a two-bay , rectangular hall building in the Romanesque style . In the yokes, dome-like groin vaults are drawn in between round shield arches . A transverse belt bow was added later. The windows are one-piece and round-arched . There is an entrance on the north side. The Klus is covered by a gable roof.
