The castle Holzheim is a lowland castle west of Heistern on the territory of the municipality Langerwehe Westphalia North-Rhine in Düren . It lies between Heistern and the Bovenberg Forest near Eschweiler- Nothberg and is used today for agriculture and as a riding stables.
The Holzheimer Graben runs east of the castle and flows into the Inde at Hüelte .
The castle dates from 1333 and its owners were under the Duchy of Jülich . The manor house and gate tower that are still preserved today were built in the 15th to 17th centuries . In 1818, when the area was in the Prussian district of Düren, the castle and its lands were sold to private individuals. In 1893 it was bought by Richard Schleicher , who also bought the nearby Gut Schönthal . Later the property changed hands several times.
