Krásný Buk Castle

Krásný Buk (German Schönbuche ) are the remains of a medieval castle near Krásný Buk ( Schönbüchel ), a district of Krásná Lípa ( Schönlinde ) in the Bohemian Netherlands in the Czech Republic . Of the castle complex , apart from a few remains of the wall, only parts of the ring wall with the moat are preserved.

history

The Krásný Buk castle was probably built in the second half of the 13th century, but no later than the beginning of the 14th century. At the beginning of the 14th century the castle belonged to Heinrich von Leipa. Whether he owned it at the turn of the century or whether it was returned to him like Zittau and Oybin in 1310 is unknown. In 1319 he exchanged Krásný Buk together with these possessions with the Bohemian King John of Luxembourg in exchange for possessions in southern Moravia. A little later, Wartenbergers were apparently sitting in the castle, as well as on the nearby Tolštejn . In 1339 Schönbuch was conquered and destroyed by the Zittauern and other cities. The castle was then not renewed and it fell into disrepair.

Excavations at the castle in 1850 brought to light not only ceramic shards but also horseshoes, arrowheads and a Hussite mace. A badly weathered Roman coin from the reign of Emperor Hadrian (AD 117-138) was also found in a field not far from the castle .
