Norbert Stertz

Norbert Stertz (* 1965 in Endingen am Kaiserstuhl ) is a German horn player and professor at the Detmold University of Music.

Life

Stertz made his first acquaintance with the horn as a musician with the Stadtmusik Endingen. He studied at the music academies in Freiburg (with Ifor James ) and Frankfurt (with Marie-Luise Neunecker ). During his studies he already had an engagement as principal horn player in the federal student orchestra Junge Deutsche Philharmonie .

From 1987 Stertz was first horn player in the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and played from 1989 to 2006 as principal horn player with the Dortmund Philharmonic . Since 1997 he has been principal horn player in the West German Sinfonia Leverkusen .

From 1993 to 2004, Stertz was a lecturer at the Detmold University of Music , Dortmund department and taught at the Folkwang University of Essen in 2004/05 . Since 2006 he has been teaching horn at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, succeeding Michael Höltzel .

From 2008 Norbert Stertz was prorector of the music academy for six years and artistic director of the Detmold Summer Academy from 2009 to 2016. In 2013 and 2014 he was also the artistic director of the Orchesterzentrum NRW in Dortmund. Since January 2020, Stertz has been a visiting professor at the “Claudio Monteverdi” Conservatory in Bolzano .
