The castle Kräheneck is an Outbound early medieval hilltop castle on the 375  m above sea level. NN high Kirchberg between Ammertal and Kochharttal in the Reusten part of the municipality of Ammerbuch in the Tübingen district in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle, which was built in a pentagonal shape, was built by the Counts of Nagold and later Tübingen as a place of jurisdiction by expanding an Alemannic refuge .

The castle was probably used as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Kräheneck between 1000 and 1200 AD. Hugo, Count von Kräheneck was first mentioned around 1037. The castle was also owned by the Counts of Hildrizhausen-Kräheneck. Only small remnants of ramparts and moats have survived from the former castle.

description

An extensive medieval castle complex could be proven during excavations of the University of Tübingen in the years 1921 to 1929. It was a typical spur or tongue castle, which was naturally protected on three sides and had an outer and inner moat on the fourth side , through which the only access to the castle led.

Blackboard with the description of the castle

About 6.5 m north-west of the churchyard wall, a 20 m long wall crosses the ridge and is 0.5 m high in the middle. There is no ditch in front of him, but there is a shallow hollow between the wall and the churchyard gate. Accordingly, it is likely to be the outer wall of a now padded section trench . The actual front wall of the complex is likely to have already been located within the cemetery. Halfway up the steep southwest side of the mountain, another wall used to run along, which has recently been destroyed by the quarry operated there. You can still see various walls over which the path leads past the cemetery to the west.
