Leibertingen Castle

The castle Leibertingen even Leiber Pleintinger local Castle or The Castle called, is a Outbound Turmhügelburg (Motte) in the municipality Leibertingen in the district of Sigmaringen in Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location

The Ortsburg is located in Leibertingen on the property behind the “Zur Burg” inn on the edge of a flat valley. The name “Zur Burg” does not apply to Wildenstein Castle , but to the former local castle of Leibertingen.

history

The castle was probably built in the 11th century and could have been the predecessor of the Wildensteiner castles built from 1100 onwards. But also possible as a later local castle of the lower noble family von Leibertingen mentioned in 1231. Ceramic finds have shown that the castle was still inhabited in the 13th century.

description

From the former castle complex of the Motte (tower hill castle) only a circular, approximately three to four meter high castle hill with a diameter of 25 meters has survived. This was largely destroyed by construction work from 1973 to 1975.
