Pingwu ( Chinese 平武县 , Pinyin Píngwǔ Xiàn ) is a district of the prefecture-level city of Mianyang in the Chinese province of Sichuan . It has an area of 5,974 square kilometers and a population of 190,000 (2006). About 43,000 or 23% of the population are Qiang, Tibetan, Hui and other ethnic minorities.
The mountain landscapes in and around Pingwu are a popular tourist destination. Approximately 280 wild pandas live in Pingwu County (this corresponds to about 1/7 of the wild pandas in the world!). About 1/3 of these are specially protected in three nature reserves located in Pingwu (Wanglang, Sier and Xiaohegou nature reserves).
The Bao'en Temple of Pingwu ( Chinese 平 武 报恩寺 , Pinyin Píngwǔ bào'ēnsì ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (4-156) since 1996 .
The annual average temperature in the administrative city of Pingwu is 14.7 ℃. The temperature maximum is 37 ℃ and the temperature minimum is -7 ℃. The average annual precipitation over several years is 866.5 mm (but subject to strong fluctuations). Due to different altitudes and different mountain constellations in the other communities of Pingwu, the climatic conditions there can sometimes be different.

Pingwu County consists of nine large parishes and sixteen parishes , including three Qiang parishes and six Tibetan parishes . These are:
