Marmagen Castle

The castle Marmagen is in the district Marmagen the municipality Nettersheim in Euskirchen ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ). Marmagen Castle, at Burgstrasse 12, was entered on March 8, 1983 under number 8 in the list of monuments of the municipality of Nettersheim .

The homestead , still known today as a castle , stands in the middle of the village between new buildings. An exact date of construction cannot be determined, but a local nobleman named Konrad von Marmagen is mentioned as early as 1297 . Further nobles from this family did not appear until the 15th century. It is assumed that they could not prevail over the Steinfeld Monastery , which owned goods here. The castle has been in civil ownership since the 18th century.

The two-storey building is made of plastered rubble and is accessible through the round stair tower on the courtyard side . In the left part there is an older tower-like building from the Middle Ages . Only a few old window frames have survived. Most of the windows are newer. According to Herzog, the oldest castle was probably vacant and was surrounded by moats that disappeared when it was converted into a farm in the 18th century.
