The castle Neubrück was a medieval island castle in Neubrück in Lower Saxony , of which no more residues are available today. It lay on an earlier island of the Oker and had bridges to the western and eastern banks.

history

The first written mention of the castle dates from 1321 when it was completed as Castrum Brugghe . Initially ducal property, in 1340 it came into the possession of the Lords of Marenholtz as pledge . In 1413 it was pledged to the city of Braunschweig , which was responsible for monitoring the Oker. In 1415 the Lords of Marenholtz attacked the castle, which was defended by the castle garrison. In 1492 ducal troops conquered the castle and the city of Braunschweig finally renounced the complex in 1494. In 1576, when Neubrück became the center of a small ducal office, the castle is described as desolate . Presumably it was destroyed during the conquest in 1492. During the Thirty Years War there were hardly any remains of the medieval castle. The official buildings with barns and stables drawn by Merian around 1650 were half-timbered buildings that were only erected when the office was established. In 1709 26 bulbs of stones were removed from the castle site to build the church in Groß Schwülper .
