Neubrück is a district of the municipality of Wendeburg in the Peine district in Lower Saxony .

geography

Neubrück is located about ten kilometers northwest of the city of Braunschweig on the course of the Oker and is largely characterized by the Oker meadows, agriculture and the surrounding forest (Barons Busch in the south and Galgenkamp in the north). Strictly speaking, it consists of two parts: Ersehof and the village of Neubrück. The settlement Ersehof is on the federal highway 214 and is connected by the county road 66 with the village about one kilometer away. The village also consists of two parts separated by the Oker. The western part borders directly on Didderse .

history

Neubrück (Nienbrück) around 1654/1658, engraving by Matthäus Merian

Several desert areas are known in the vicinity of Neubrück : Tide (located upstream on the Oker) from the 8th century and Volkmarsdorf (north of today's town) from the 12th century. The first documentary mention dates back to 1321, when Neubrück Castle was completed as Castrum Brugghe . It was probably destroyed when it was conquered by ducal troops in 1492. In 1576, when Neubrück became the center of a small ducal office, the castle is described as desolate . The official buildings visible in the Merian engraving were half-timbered buildings that were only erected when the office was established. They were probably demolished after the office was closed.

For a long time, Neubrück was the border station of the state or duchy of Braunschweig and belonged to the former district of Braunschweig as an independent municipality until the Lower Saxony regional reform . On March 1, 1974, Neubrück was incorporated into the Wendeburg community. As a border station at which travelers and traders had to declare their belongings, Neubrück had an office building on an Oker island with ancillary buildings (called "Castle") that emerged from Neubrück Castle.

coat of arms

A golden wooden bridge with two piers under a golden crenellated shield head in the blue field “speaks” for the place name, which is documented as “Nygenbrugge” in 1378. In fact, the Oker crossing was important as a customs post as early as 1576 for the development of the place. The battlements symbolize the former castle, which is attested as "Castrum Bruckhe" as early as 1321 - there was already a bridge. At least from 1557 to 1796 there was also the seat of the court or the office of Neubrück. The blue and yellow Braunschweig state and district colors remind us that Neubrück was Braunschweig for centuries and that it was an independent municipality in the Braunschweig district until 1974. Since then, Neubrück has been part of the Wendeburg community in the Peine district. The coat of arms was adopted by the local council on February 26, 1986. Design: Wilhelm Krieg.
