Rolf Ahlers (* 1940 in Wendezelle , Lower Saxony ) is a German engineer and writer .

life and work

Rolf Ahlers grew up in Wendezelle, now part of the Wendeburg community . After attending school and apprenticeship as a skilled worker (lathe operator), he studied mechanical engineering , graduating as a graduate engineer . His approximately 40 years of professional activity at the Federal Research Institute for Agriculture in Braunschweig was characterized by different areas of responsibility: construction, test and process engineering - for many years in the fields of renewable energy and environmental issues - with the specialty areas of mathematics, measurement, control and regulation technology as well as data acquisition and -processing. From 1980 to 1991 he was responsible for the operation of an experimental biogas plant (with electricity generation from the biogas) in order to demonstrate the possibilities and limits of the process. In addition, he was involved in the staff council for 28 years, most recently as chairman of the general staff council. In 2003 the publication “History of the Research Location Braunschweig-Völkenrode”, published by Rolf Ahlers and Gerhard Sauerbeck, made it possible to end his professional career.

In addition to his professional activity, his voluntary local political activities should be mentioned. From 1981 to 1996 he was the local mayor of Wendeburg, from 1996 to 2002 as mayor and 2002 to 2011 as deputy mayor. From 1991 to 2011 he was a member of the Peine district council and from 1996 to 2011 he was deputy district administrator.

His voluntary homecare activities are dedicated to his love of homeland - he has reported in many publications, including as the initiator of local celebrations, anniversaries, memorials and memorial days as well as the promotion of the Low German language, Ostfälisch . Since 1986 he has been working as a community nurse for Wendeburg , since 2003 as editor of Ostfalenpost , since 2005 as spokesman for the Low German working group of the Braunschweigische Landschaft association and since 2008 as editor of the magazine Braunschweigische Heimat . Activities as ghostwriter and editor . In 1989, he donated the “family bell” as the third bell for the Marienkirche in Wendeburg .
