Zweidorf is a district of the village of Wendeburg in the municipality of Wendeburg in the Peine district in Lower Saxony with around 1500 inhabitants.

history

The first documentary mention was made in an undated document that was issued between 1132 and 1141. This was followed by an 850th anniversary celebration in 1991. An anniversary memorial was inaugurated on August 24, 1991. Since then, a memorial stone day has been celebrated every year on August 24. A landmark of Zweidorf is the Dutch windmill on the western outskirts.

On July 1, 1968, the communities Wendeburg, Wendezelle and Zweidorf voluntarily merged to form a new community Wendeburg.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of the Zweidorf family

The Brunswick patrician family von Zweidorf ( ndd. Twedorpe ), who named themselves after the place, had a green bar in the silver coat of arms, underneath one and above two four-petalled halves of roses. The community took over the bar, but joined the cut roses to form a whole red rose with a green clump and green sepals and now has a synthetic flower, which is clearly different from many other heraldic roses, with four instead of the usual five leaves. The coat of arms was adopted by the municipal council on February 18, 1964 and approved by the Braunschweig administrative president on August 27, 1964. Design: Wilhelm Krieg.

Anna von Zweydorff (1580–1666) was the mother of the Magdeburg politician and physicist Otto Gericke .

Club life

There is the volunteer fire brigade and other voluntary organizations, associations and groups.

The Catholic Church of St. Elisabeth is located in Zweidorf .

In Zweidorfer Holz, a forest between Peine and Wendeburg, a forest adventure trail has been created with the help of the Wendeburg Aueschule, the community youth welfare service, the Meerdorf district forester and the Lower Saxony Forestry Office Braunschweig.
