Wendeburg is a district of the village of Wendeburg in the municipality of Wendeburg in the Peine district in Lower Saxony with around 4,300 inhabitants.

history

The oldest documentary evidence was given in the “list of goods of the collegiate monastery Sankt Cyriakus vor Braunschweig”, which has been preserved in two undated copies, “A” and “B”.

Copy "A" was made in the 14th century and is now in the Braunschweig city archive (signature: A III 11, no. 16). The certificate, written in Latin, contains the information: " III modios siliginis in Winetheburg " (= 3 bushels of wheat in Wendeburg). The template from which copy "A" was made must have been older than copy "B". The copy "B" was made in the years 1196/1197, it is now in the Wolfenbüttel State Archives (signature: 8 Urk 2). The certificate, which is also written in Latin, contains the information: " in Wenedeburch I mansus, qui solvit IIII solidos " (= in Wendeburg 1 yard that pays 4 schillings).

The transcript "A" contains around 60 place names and around 150 place names are named in the transcript "B". Wendeburg is listed in both documents in the spelling Winetheburg and Wenedeburch . The mentioned year numbers 1196/1197 indicate the earliest and the latest possible time for the execution of the copy "B". Content information and the seal are the basis for this dating. As the place name Wendeburg is mentioned for the first time, the documents have a special meaning for the local history of Wendeburg.

On July 1, 1968, the communities Wendeburg, Wendezelle and Zweidorf voluntarily merged to form a new community Wendeburg.

Club life

There is the Kernort volunteer fire brigade and other voluntary organizations, associations and groups. On many occasions, the Wendeburg song (see: Weblink) is played every now and then.
