Wense is a district of the municipality of Wendeburg in the Peine district in Lower Saxony .

location

Wense is about four kilometers northwest of the core town of Wendeburg and 9.5 km northeast of Peine (both as the crow flies) at an average altitude of 72 m above sea level. NN. On the southern edge there are several gravel pits and a concrete plant.

history

The first written mention was dated to the year 1187 . Traditionally, gravel and sand deposits are exploited; today concrete pipes for sewer systems are manufactured industrially.

On March 1, 1974, Wense was incorporated into the Wendeburg community.

coat of arms

In the shield, divided diagonally to the left in red and gold, a blue armored wolf in alternating colors: The wolf is, albeit differently colored, the same as in the coats of arms of the city and district of Peine or also of Rüper, namely that of the Counts of Wolfenbüttel-Asseburg, the ruled here in the 13th century as heirs of the Counts of Peine. The local colors of gold and red are reminiscent of Wense's centuries of membership in the duchy of Hildesheim. The coat of arms was adopted by the local council on October 31, 1960 and approved by the Hildesheim district president on January 10, 1961. Design: Alfred Brecht.
