The manor house Burg Obersülz , also called Burghaus Scheltensülz or simply Scheltensülz and Heidenhaus , is located near the river Sülz in Hopesthal . First mentioned in a document in the 12th century, the structure found today goes back to the 15th century. Today the castle has been restored and is inhabited.

The name "Heidenhaus" goes back to the legend Der Lüderich by Otto Schell .

The map shows the area around 1900 with the castle in the center (red). The Sülz meandered in the unpopulated river valley. The course of the L284 road remained almost unchanged; the Cologne-Mülheim – Lindlar railway line (popularly known as the Sülztalbahn) has been closed.

The castle house is entered under No. 18 in the list of architectural monuments in Rösrath . The oldest remaining beams date from the 12th to 14th centuries.
