Otto Schell (local history researcher)

Otto Schell (born March 14, 1858 in Elberfeld , † March 10, 1931 in Wuppertal) was a local researcher in the Bergisches Land . He also used the pseudonym O. Elver for his writings .

Life

Schell was the son of master weaver Karl Schell. He was a teacher in Elberfeld and editor of the monthly journal of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein . Schell was one of the advocates of the Bergische Bauweise and researched its cultural history.

His more than a thousand publications also include the historical part of the official commemorative publication for the town of Elberfeld's three-centenary in 1910. His collection of Bergische sagas, which he had compiled up to 1897, was reprinted in numerous new editions.

Schell was born with Calla. Juulmann married.

His resting place in the Lutheran cemetery on Hochstrasse in Wuppertal-Elberfeld is maintained by the city. His birthplace in Lipkenskothen , a half-timbered house from 1756 in today's Katernberg district with the address Birkenhöhe 49 , was demolished on December 7, 1981.
