In 1832 Lipkenskothen belonged to the Katernberger Rotte of the rural outskirts of the parish and the city of Elberfeld . The place, which was also categorized as Kotten according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , was referred to as im Lippkeskothen and at that time owned a house and an agricultural building. At that time, 13 residents lived in the village, all of whom were Protestant. No population is given for 1815/16. Another form of the name of the place was Lipkeskothen (1850), around 1930 the location is also called Birkerhöhe .

A sports field was created next to the residential area in the 1930s, which was removed along with the original residential development in the 1980s. The site was rebuilt at the turn of the millennium and a newly built access road to the new development area, opened on September 21, 2000, was named Lipkenskothen .
