In 1832 the place belonged to the Katernberger Rotte of the rural outskirts of the parish and the city of Elberfeld . The place, categorized as a farmyard according to the statistics and topography of the administrative district of Düsseldorf , was designated as am Bäumchen and at that time had three residential buildings and four agricultural buildings. At that time, 21 people lived in the village, all of whom were Protestant.

On the Prussian first recording from 1843 the place is finally called Am Baum . At the beginning of the 1970s, the original buildings disappeared and the location was built over with multi-family houses from the Birkenhöhe settlement.
