In the 19th century as a dwelling place in the rural community was Am Steinberg Scholler the mayoralty Haan (1894 mayoralty Gruiten ) from the Berg rule Schoeller emerged. In 1888, according to the community encyclopedia for the Rhineland province , the place had two houses with 21 residents.

From 1929 to the municipal reform of 1975, the city boundary between Am Steinberg and neighboring Bellenbusch ran between Wuppertal and the then independent municipality of Schöller. In 1975 the community of Schöller and Wülfrather Dornap and their suburbs were split off from the Gruiten office and incorporated into the Schöller-Dornap residential area in Wuppertal. Am Steinberg from Schöller came to Wuppertal.

From the second half of the 20th century, Am Steinberg increasingly merged with the neighboring triple settlement Holthauser Heide / Bellenbusch / Kahlenbusch and thus formed a closed settlement through which the district boundary between Schöller-Dornap and Osterholz still runs.
