Rheinhausen Castle

The castle Rheinhausen , even Zollburg Husen or Rhinhusen called, is a Outbound lowland castle in what is now the Mannheim district Schwetzingerstadt .

The Tiefburg was built in the 12th century by the Reich Ministerial Lords von Husen as a customs castle and was mentioned in 1247 as the Mannheim customs office for the Rhine and Neckar . It was the first fortification in Mannheim and lay on the Neckar, which at that time still flowed south of Mannheim into the Rhine. Markward von Annweiler took over the castle from the Lords of Husen .

As a result of a major flood, the Neckar changed its course around 1275 and has since flowed north of Mannheim into the Rhine. The castle was thus in the plain between the Rhine and Neckar and was no longer suitable for customs purposes. After being destroyed in the 17th century, Rheinhausen Gutshof became the electoral domain. Nothing is left of the former castle complex. Burgstrasse and Rheinhäuser Strasse, at the intersection of which the castle was located, are a reminder of the building in Mannheim.

The minstrel Friedrich von Hausen came from the castle .
