The castle Rothöchi or Upper Castle is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle in the Swiss municipality of Upper Castle in the canton of Bern .
Location and description
The castle stood at the entrance to the Krauchthal above the village on the Rothöchi. Today there are no more traces of the complex visible.
history
The castle Rothöchi was probably the headquarters of a Ministerialengeschlechts the Kyburgs . It can be assumed that these are the lords of Oberburg mentioned in a document in the 13th century or the lords of Rohrmoos. In 1384 the castle came under Bernese influence after the Burgdorf War between the Kyburgers and Bern . In 1406 the rule was assigned to the Burgdorf mayor's office.
