The Rothenburg is an Outbound Slavic hill fort on the Saale north of the hamlet of Rothenburg (Castle Hill) in the municipality Wettin-Löbejün in Saalekreis ( Saxony-Anhalt ).
The hill fort, which was probably founded in the 9th century to secure a passage across the hall, was first handed down in 961 as the "Zputinesburg". The four-cornered main castle , the castle plateau of which still affords a wide view of the Saale area, was protected in the north and east by two to three ramparts. Presumably the castle perished around 1075 in the course of internal German wars and today only shows the "castle hill".
