The remains of the castle Schadewald , even Allzunah or Big Alzne called, are located in the district Herrmannsacker in the district of Nordhausen in Thuringia .
history
It is also called Allzunah or Großer Alzne because it was built on the southern edge of the Harz between Ilfeld and Rottleberode with another five castles, the Allzunahburgen . Count Siegfried von Anhalt is said to have built this castle in 1247 and 1249. Inheritance disputes were probably the reason.
In addition to Schadewald Castle, there are the castles Burg Friedenland , Ebersburg , Burg Lehnberg , niedere Allzunah and western Allzunah . The Schadewald has the central location, whereby the visibility from castle to castle has been maintained for security reasons.
description
The hilltop castle is 475 meters above sea level on a steep and isolated hilltop above the Krebsbachtal, 1.6 kilometers north of Herrmannsacker. It forms the center of the aforementioned Allzunah castle walls.
Your oval castle square is 25 × 35 meters. In the northern part (even if other sources, according to F. Stolberg, write from the south) there is the stump of a round keep with a diameter of 6 meters. There is also a cistern 5 meters deep. An oval moat with a rampart runs around the castle square . A terrace indicates a bailey . Except for the lower Allzunah there are partly rocky steep slopes.
When the Ebersburg was handed over to the Counts of Stolberg in 1326, Anhalt's interest in this southern Harz property died out. Schadewald Castle was abandoned.
